The Intuitive Ion is a robotic-assisted bronchoscopy platform designed to reach and biopsy small peripheral lung nodules that were previously inaccessible without surgery. Its ultra-thin articulating catheter navigates through the complex branching airways of the lungs to reach nodules deep in the periphery.
Using real-time 3D navigation generated from CT scan data, the Ion system guides the catheter through airways as small as 3mm in diameter. This enables early-stage lung cancer diagnosis without the risks of surgical biopsy, potentially catching the leading cause of cancer death at its most treatable stage.
