Floor-to-ceiling windows, high-rise apartments and glass-walled extensions are everywhere now. So is the problem of how to clean them safely. The window-cleaning robot category has matured rapidly to meet that demand — but the spread between the best and worst products in this category is still wider than almost any other robotics segment.

We tested seven models on standard double-glazed windows, frameless balustrades, large picture windows and frosted bathroom glass. Both indoor and outdoor surfaces were included.

Setup and Safety Tips

  • Always use the safety tether, even for ground-floor indoor windows. Robots can lose suction unexpectedly.
  • Pre-spray particularly dirty windows with diluted vinegar or commercial glass cleaner before deploying the robot. They are designed to maintain clean glass, not deep-clean it.
  • Replace cleaning pads more often than the manual suggests. Pads load up with grime quickly and start streaking.
  • Never use on cracked or chipped glass. Suction failures are rare but happen.

What to Avoid

Sub-$150 window cleaning robots from unknown brands appear regularly on Amazon and dropshipping sites. We tested three this year and all three streaked badly, two had unreliable edge detection, and one fell off our test window in the first ten minutes. This is one category where the price-to-quality correlation is strong — buy from established manufacturers with after-sales support.
