Unitree R1

Our Verdict: The most affordable humanoid robot ever made. At sub-$5K for the Air variant, Unitree is democratizing humanoid robotics.

The Unitree R1 was named one of TIME’s Best Inventions of 2025, representing a breakthrough in accessible humanoid robotics. Standing 121cm tall and weighing just 25kg, it’s significantly smaller and lighter than the G1 while offering superior computing power (100 TOPS vs 40 TOPS).

With 26 joint modules providing lifelike agility, the R1 can box, run, and even cartwheel. Its backpack-style computer runs Unitree’s UnifoLM multimodal large-language model for voice/image recognition without cloud latency. Available in Basic ($5,900), Air ($4,900), and EDU ($10,000+) variants, the EDU version adds NVIDIA Jetson Orin, ROS 2 SDK, and Python/C++ programming.
